It’s Derby Day- Let’s Celebrate!!!

The Kentucky Derby has been a Horse Racing Tradition since 1875. Everything revolves around “The Run for the Roses” which takes place at the historical Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky and is often referred to as “the greatest two minutes in sports.”

To Celebrate the Big Race and your Big Day in style, incorporate the Mint Julep as a signature drink for your guests to enjoy. Everyone will be a winner!!

4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water

Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.

Longfellows Restaurant and Hotel is proud to pair up with Star Radio for the annual

Star and Moon Bridal Show

Stop by Longfellows anytime from 11am until 3pm this Sunday, March 4th to get your wedding planning started or to find the last details to complete your Big Day! With over 50 vendors there will be plenty of people to meet and great ideas and trends to see.

Wedding shows can be very overwhelming so here are a few tips to help you make the most out of the day!

1. Wear flat shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and standing. You will want to be comfortable.

2. Bring your Mate or a friend. It’s a great day for your fiancée to be involved with the planning.  If they can’t make it bring your maid of honor or bridal attendant.  You will be getting a lot of information from the vendors, so it will be helpful to have an extra pair of hands.

3. Bring address labels. Many vendors will have raffles that you can enter at their booths. Free bridal bouquets, discounts off their services or gift certificates … Writing your name, address and phone number over and over again will get old, real quick! The address labels will come in handy!

4. Be prepared. Make a list of what areas of the reception you still need help with. Find out before hand what vendors are going to be at the show. Check out their websites and make a list of vendors you want to speak with while at the show.  If you are in a time crunch it will ensure you get to the people that you.

5.  Don’t get overwhelmed. It’s going to be a day of information overload. Simply take as many brochures and informational guides as possible. Try and make notes on which vendors you really liked or connected with. This way when you get home and are going through the pile of papers, you will remember which ones you really want to follow up on.

Bridal Show Season is upon us!

For all of the newly engaged couples out there, this is a great time to jump start your wedding planning. If you are wondering whether or not to attend a show, here are a few reasons why you should…

1. Meet a lot of vendors. There are a many vendors that you will need to hire for your Big Day! The efficiency of meeting this many in one day and place is totally underrated. It can seem overwhelming, definitely, but by asking a few questions you can get a lot of research done in one afternoon. Plus, there will be some vendors to you have never heard of before.

It’s also great to be able to meet the vendors in person.  Looking at websites and speaking with people through e-mail and phone is a great start but the face to face is crucial. Tone and personality can get lost in an e-mail and it’s important that you connect with your vendors.  Meeting everyone in person will give you the opportunity to see who you feel more comfortable with. You can tell a lot about the potential of a working relationship in those first few minutes at their table or booth.

2. Get Ideas. Most vendors decorate their booths with items that are popular right now. Using the internet is a good start to look at what is trending for favors, décor ideas or fashion, but seeing these things up close can make a huge difference.  Maybe you were deciding on what kind of photobooth to get, seeing the full set up may help you make that decision.

3. Bond with your family & friends.  Wedding planning can be a stressful process. Bring along your maid of honor or mother and have a great bonding experience that is relaxing and a lot of fun!

4. Get lots of Goodies. Who doesn’t love free stuff? The vendors at bridal shows want you to be able to experience first-hand what they have to offer.  Samples will help you remember which vendor or product you liked the best. And ok,  free cupcakes and champagne don’t hurt either :0)

5. Take advantage of bridal show specials. A lot of vendors will be offering special discounts just for meeting them at the show or will be raffling off free products or services. Typically the show itself will have many door prizes raffled off as well, so make sure you sign up for as many as you are interested in.  Bringing personalized address labels with your name, address, phone # and e-mail makes signing up for give aways a snap!

Longfellows will be at the Saratoga Today show on Sunday, 2/26…stop by our booth!
