Today we begin our weekly highlight of the many wonderful vendors we work with and recommend to our wedding couples. Our featured blog guest this week is Alissa Woods. She has owned Cake by Alissa in Schuylerville for 5 years and prior to that was the Pastry Chef at Putnam Market for 8 years. Her degree is in Baking & Pastry Arts from Paul Smith’s. Here’s what she had to say about her business and providing cakes for weddings:
What makes a great cake provider/baker?
Responsiveness. I am available throughout the whole process.
Describe your style:
My style is simple and natural where less is more. We use natural ingredients and local products from vendors such as Battenkill Valley Creamery, Saratoga Apple, Hand Melon Farm & Thomas Poultry Farm.
What distinguishes you from others?
My products taste as good as they look and are baked to order.
What’s most important to know about you?
I can make anything happen; am flexible; and rarely say no.
Best advice you would give couples:
Choose what you want. You’ll never please every guest so do what you want. It’s dessert, people will eat it!
Who or what most influenced your work?
Keeping up to date on Pinterest and with magazines.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I love to bake, love to eat and try new flavors! I enjoy my job and have fun. I love the whole process of working with couples. They’re very pleasant and organized.
